On this day in 2015 - Varun Aaron and Mitchell Starc star in RCB win
After having dominated Rajasthan Royals at Ahmedabad, the RCB bowling outfit was high on confidence in the leadup to the game against Delhi Daredevils. The arrival of Mitchell Starc had put an end to the bowling woes. On his arrival, the Aussie pacer instilled verve and potency, which eventually rubbed off on his bowling comrades.
Clinical RCB restrict Delhi Daredevils to a paltry total
Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to field first. Mitchell Starc struck in the 1st over. Shreyas Iyer was caught unaware by the in-swinging yorker and was adjudged leg before wicket.
JP Duminy paired up with Mayank Agarwal, adding 34-run partnership for the second wicket. Eventually, the liaison didn't last long courtesy a sharp piece of bowling from David Wiese, dismissing his countryman in the 6th over. In an attempt to drive the ball through the covers, JP Duminy feathered it to Dinesh Karthik. The Protea batsman's dismissal marked the arrival of Yuvraj Singh to the crease.
After being accounted for 22 runs in his first two overs, Varun Aaron introduced in the 7th over, dealt telling blows, beating Yuvraj Singh and Angelo Mathews with pace and bounce.
On a dual paced wicket, the RCB bowling unit were relentless and used the short-ball to good effect. Mayank Agarwal found a perfect ally in Kedar Jadhav - adding 27 runs for the fifth wicket. But, Mayank Agarwal's 34-ball stay at the crease was halted by Iqbal Abdulla.
In the 14th over, Nathan Coulter Nile became victim to an off-cutter and was trapped leg before by David Weise, leaving DD on 72 for 6 wickets. Kedar Jadhav struck 4 boundaries during his 29-ball stay at the crease, but in an attempt to up the ante, the batsman miscued the hoik and holed out to the deep midwicket fielder. Mitchell Starc dealt twin blows, dismissing Amit Mishra and Shahbaz Nadeem with a soaring yorker - the ever-reliable tool at the death.
Gayle-Kohli's 99-run stand steers RCB to a comprehensive win
Riding on a clinical performance from the RCB pacers, Delhi Daredevils were bundled out for a meagre 95 runs - the joint lowest total of the season. In reply to the chase, the 95-run target was always going to be a formality for the visitors. Chris Gayle was quick off the blocks, plundering 14 runs in the second over. With Virat Kohli playing the perfect foil at the other end, Gayle did the bulk of the scoring. Chris Gayle brought up his half-century in just 31 balls; hoisting a six over midwicket of Imran Tahir's delivery.
In the 11th over, Virat Kohli finished the proceedings with consecutive boundaries - handing RCB their third victory of the season. Chris Gayle's 40-ball stay at the crease aided with 6 boundaries and four sixes pioneered RCB to a 10-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils.
