Nostalgia Cam: The Challenger Crest

The world of franchisee cricket is newer than some of the most widely followed leagues across the globe. Quite understandably, the player loyalty that one associates with a club has not quite made its presence feel yet. The transfers are discussed from the prism of money more than emotions.

Imagining a Messi in anything but Barcelona jersey or a Gerrard without Liverpool Red’s is criminal.

But that’s not quite the case in the Indian Premier League. The way the tournament is structured plays a huge role in ensuring players hop from one camp to the another and for a not-so-fanatic follower, it sometimes is a little tedious to remember which player played for which team in which season.

But there are exceptions. This one involves the captain, who proudly voices his love for the club he has been associated with since the advent of the league. “There is no scenario where I could think of leaving the team ever.”

On 13th April 2019, Virat Kohli surpassed Suresh Raina as the highest run aggregator in the league. The occasion also marked his 36th IPL fifty. The special moment deserved a special gesture. Thus, this pointing to the Crest. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, this one had a thousand emotions as well – but none stronger than the reverence the captain has for a team that’s home.
