No final decision on IPL yet: BCCI sources
Cutting through the clutters of rumours and murmurs, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources have confirmed that there has been no final decision on the fate of this year’s IPL. Earlier the IPL, was deferred to 15th April but with the country going under a 21-day lockdown, there have been rumours that the tournament might get canceled for the year.
Although, the BCCI is said to have been monitoring the situation, there is no final word on the tournament as yet.
The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders and public health, and is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience,” the official statement had read from the BCCI the day the tournament was deferred.
The board has been constantly assuring that it will work in unison with the sports ministry, adhering to the guidelines issued. However, with sporting events across the world getting postponed, there have been concerns about whether it will be feasible and advisable to pull off the tournament this year.
However, with the cabinet secretary, Rajiv Gauba, saying that the government is not planning to extend the 21-day lockdown, there is a possibility – albeit a faint one – that normalcy might return, paving the way for a tournament that has been an annual feature for the past 12 years.
