Whenever Virat Kohli takes the yard in the Royal Blue threads, milestones fall in line with one of the finest batters that the shortest format of the game has ever seen. And as India braces itself for the formidable Proteas challenge, Virat Kohli eyes another massive milestone that would set him ahead from the rest.

He has already piled up 144 runs in the first two games of the ongoing T20 World Cup, hammering a crucial 82 against Pakistan that reminisced the fans of his blazing knock against the mighty Australians back in 2016 while he followed it up with an imperative 62 that came off just 44 balls.

With his half-century against Netherlands, he breezed past RCB Hall of Famer, Chris Gayle in the list of highest run-getters in the antiquity of the T20 World Cup. Currently stationed in the second position of the highest run-scorers in the history of the tournament, Kohli has another massive milestone lurking right ahead of him tantalizingly.

With 989 runs scored from 23 matches, he is just 28 short of being the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cups, toppling the Sri Lankan legend, Mahela Jayawardene from the perch. Jayawardene finished his career with a staggering 1016 runs from 31 T20 World Cup matches.

Gayle has 965 runs from 33 games while Indian captain Rohit Sharma is in the fourth spot with 904 runs in 23 matches while another Sri Lankan icon, Tillakaratne Dilshan is in the fifth spot with 897 runs from 35 matches.

Virat would continue to be a vital cog in India’s ambition as they take the yard against the mighty Proteas, hoping to take a significant lead in the group stages of the tournament.
