India probably gets the nod: Danny Morrison on Team India's chances against South Africa
If India manages to secure a win against South Africa at Perth later in the day, they would almost be confirming their berth in the semis with three wins from three games. They started the tournament with a bang, surging past Pakistan in a thriller while drubbing Netherlands comfortably in the following contest.
Despite a few questions doing rounds about Team India, experts believe that the Men in Blue are actually doing a phenomenal job and South Africa should be very scared to face the mighty Indians. However, going by the numbers, the Proteas have also been in fine form that saw them demolishing Bangladesh comfortably while being denied another important win against Zimbabwe as the rain gods played spoilsport.
The latest addition to this list of experts weighing in with their opinions about this vital group stage fixture was former New Zealand fast bowler, Danny Morrison. Talking about the match-up on ICC’s website, Morrison said, “Rohit (Sharma), KL (Rahul) is yet to really kick off, Suryakumar Yadav and of course, Virat Kohli. You put them up against (Kagiso) Rabada, (Anrich) Nortje, (Wayne) Parnell is making a bit of a comeback, (Keshav) Maharaj, (Tabraiz) Shamsi; South Africa has got a good bowling lineup to take on India. It is a hard one to pick. India probably gets the nod given what has happened recently. But man, that South African side, look out.”
He further highlighted the cut-and-run encounter that this is going to be, adding, “Nortje, Rabada have pace. Parnell brings in variety. Then you bring out the swing kings - Bhuvi and Shami. I like that but I just wonder about the intimidation of the South Africans. If they get it right, I am going a little bit for their bowling vs India's batting.”
Going by the strength of both the sides, it is obvious that this will be a picture-perfect match-up of willow and leather as a starry South African pace triptych will be colliding with an equally brilliant batting order of the Indians who have so far pulled off a phenomenal job but will be put to the test when Perth plays its own shenanigans.
