Team combination ahead of the IPL is an open field of speculations, especially when the team is a mix of some of the finest in the business. With Royal Challengers Bangalore acquiring Aaron Finch, one of the best T20I openers, for the season it was always going to be interesting to see the combination RCB throws in for the tournament.

However, Mike Hesson, Director of Cricket Operations, has made it clear that the team is not going to reveal the strategy, banking on the surprise element.

In an interview on the official website of the team, Mike said, “Well,it’s really interesting because I did a couple of hours of press conferences (virtual) yesterday, but never talked about Virat batting or where Aaron Finch is going to bat. ‘Apparently’ they are both opening the batting together.”

Hesson sarcastically agreed to the rumours, “Apparently they are (opening).” However, he was quick to add that the team was not going to reveal team combination until it was announced.

“I think the reality is from a coaching point of view and a director point of view is that we won’t be telling anybody until our first team is announced exactly what our line-up is. Because that is our strategy. We are going to want to keep some of that up our sleeves in terms of where we use our players. No doubt we will get asked many questions who is going to bat where, but they are just going to have to wait.”

“We are well aware what we want, but we also want to keep our opponents guessing as well,” concluded Hesson who is known for his astute strategies.
