Michael Vaughan feels India missed Virat Kohli’s captaincy “massively” in first Test against England

Team India suffered a narrow defeat in the opening Test as they went down fighting against England in Hyderabad. Chasing 230, India could only garner 202, that too thanks to a few late knocks of resistance from Ravichandran Ashwin and KS Bharat, who still kept hopes of an Indian win alive.

However, after the loss came about, questions were asked on a few decisions taken by Rohit Sharma that experts believe could have been consequential in the end.

Former England captain, Michael Vaughan, shared his two cents on Rohit’s captaincy, particularly opining that he felt Virat Kohli’s captaincy was sorely missed.

Talking in a discussion on the Youtube channel ‘Club Prairie Fire’, Vaughan said, “They missed Virat Kohli’s captaincy massively in Test cricket. Under Virat’s captaincy that week, India wouldn’t have lost the game. Rohit is a legend and a great player. But I felt he just switched off completely.”

Also in his column for the Telegraph, Vaughan wrote, “I thought Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was very, very average. I thought he was so reactive, I don’t think he manoeuvred his field or was proactive with his bowling changes. And he didn’t have any answer to Ollie Pope’s sweeps or reverse sweeps.”

After a loss in the opening Test, Rohit Sharma and co. will want to put on a better show in the second Test, which starts from February 2nd in Visakhapatnam.
