Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh create history, win India’s first-ever mixed team shooting medal at Paris Olympics 2024
India’s pair of Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh created history as they won India’s second medal in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024, in the mixed team 10m Air Pistol event.
Manu Bhaker continued in racking up the firsts that started on Sunday, by being the first Indian woman athlete to win two Olympic medals in the same edition of Summer Games.
The shooter burst onto the scene at a very young age, trysting with greatness from very close quarters only to be denied the last bite at glory for various reasons that seemed more out of her control, the most prominent being the malfunctioning of her gun in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
In the 10m Air Pistol bronze medal match, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh, carrying the baton for Team India, bettered the South Korean duo of Lee Wonho and Oh Ye Jin by 16-10 to emerge victorious. However, for the Indian fans who would be hoping to see more of Bhaker, she still has another event on the horizon, the 25m Air Pistol, an event in which she is the favourite to win gold and also her ‘pet event’.
Sarabjot Singh had a jittery start to the event but thanks to the composure of Manu Bhaker, the duo combined phenomenally well to help India land their second medal in the event.
Bhaker’s transcendence in the event is a blazing testimony to her persistent attitude while also showing it to the world that she is cut from a fabric of unyielding resolve which plays a pivotal role in her being the force that she is.
