Kohli will slam his 50th ODI century against South Africa – Sunil Gavaskar
Virat Kohli has been in the midst of some stunning form that now sees him placed second among the highest run-getters in the ongoing World Cup 2023. Kohli blasted a brilliant 95 in the game against New Zealand that could very well have been his record-equalling century, a 49th ODI hundred to go par with Sachin Tendulkar.
However, just while trying to finish things with a six, Virat ended up holing out in the deep and the fans were left in awe and yet heartfelt sadness.
However, shaking the bygones aside, legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made quite a bold remark about when Virat could leapfrog Tendulkar for the former to reach his 50th ODI century.
Talking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, “I don't know about the 49th but I know about the record-breaking 50th. Kohli will slam his 50th ODI century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens and what better occasion than his birthday? It's a sight when you slam a ton there because the Kolkata crowd gives you a standing ovation, and cheers for you, the air is filled with whistles and claps. It is a moment to savour for every batter.”
In order for this prediction to come true, Kohli will need to score a century firstly in any of the two matches that are coming up, first vs England on 29th or Sri Lanka on 2nd and then on 5th November, the day that India will clash against South Africa. Incidentally, November 5th is also Virat’s birthday, and if Gavaskar’s prediction comes true, it could be a spectacle to witness.
