Kohli didn't have to prove himself: BCCI president Roger Binny
There were a lot of questions about Virat Kohli’s form at the end of the England series. He decided to take a break from cricket for a month and then returned with renewed vigour, setting the stage ablaze with his signature brilliance.
He started the World Cup on a grand note, blazing Pakistan in the opener while top-scoring again against the Netherlands in the second game of the tournament. New BCCI president, Roger Binny, was all praise for the former Indian captain, underlining the fact that Kohli doesn’t need to validate his legendary status.
Talking to the news agency ANI, Roger Binny said, “It was like a dream for me. Couldn't realise the way the ball was being hit in the park by Kohli. It was a fantastic victory. You never see such matches where most of the time the match was in Pakistan's favour and all of a sudden it came back to India. Good for the game as it's what the crowd wants to see.”
Kohli stayed unbeaten for 82 in the tournament opener against Pakistan while he followed it up with another screaming 62 against the Orange Legion, unleashing his stupendous strokeplay and showcasing his exemplary temperament in crunch situations.
Binny further added, “Kohli didn't have to prove himself. He is a class player and players like him thrive in pressure situations, pressure brings out the best of them.” Virat Kohli and Team India will be taking the field again on Sunday as India collide with South Africa in a Group 2 encounter at Perth, hoping to cement their position at the top of the table.
