Josh Hazlewood ruled out of Border Gavaskar Trophy with Achilles injury

If the two opening fixtures already hadn’t made the visiting Australian team sweat, to add further salt to their wounds, RCB speedster Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series.

Making matters slightly trickier, Pat Cummins will also be leaving the tour midway due to some illness in the family. Cummins has been at the helm for the Aussies, but at the moment his family will need him predominantly and hence, he will head home. However, as per the reports of Cricket Australia, “The fast bowler was en route to Sydney on Sunday but is expected to get back to India in time to play the final two matches in Indore and Ahmedabad.”

Josh Hazlewood was expected to make a recovery in time to be a part of the third and the fourth Test but as things stand, he is still a fair distance away and will be headed back to Australia for further treatment.

The statement further stated, “Australia coach Andrew McDonald has however revealed Hazlewood is heading home to continue his rehabilitation from an Achilles complaint that has sidelined him from the first two Tests.”

However, a news that would probably put a smile on Australia’s face is the return of Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green after tending to respective injuries. Starc was averted from being a part of the second Test just to be sure that he was going to be fully fit while Cameron Green will also be joining the party, recovering from a serious finger injury.

India and Australia will collide again at the Holkar Stadium in Indore where the two teams will be battling it out from the 1st of March. If India go 3-0 up at Indore, they will be through to the WTC final slated to be played in Oval in June 2023.
