When the World's No.1 Test side and World's No.2 side go head-to-head in the World Test Championship Final, it promises to be no less than a blockbuster. The final showdown between India and New Zealand has generated widespread attention. Having dominated Test cricket for the last four years, winning the first cycle of the World Test Championship will be the cherry on top for Virat Kohli's men. New Zealand, on the other hand, will be vying for their first ICC trophy since 2000. There is a lot at stake.

In an exclusive interview with Times of India, India batting great Gundappa Viswanath believes the vital contest will be between the New Zealand batsmen and India bowlers. He also praised Mohammed Siraj's performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, saying he will be crucial to India's chances in the final once again.

“It will be India bowlers vs the New Zealand batsmen in the WTC final. India's bowling is super strong right now. Look at Shami, Bumrah, Siraj and Ishant. They all are in good touch. Siraj did a wonderful job in Australia. I am sure he will do the job for Virat in the WTC final too," The former India batsman was quoted as saying to TOI.

After two consecutive series victories over Australia and England, India is one step closer to being crowned World Test Championship champions. Viswanath, who has scored 6080 runs in 91 Tests for India, feels that the series victories over two quality teams will boost Team India's confidence heading into the final match. However, the 72-year-old warned Team India not to take the Kiwis lightly.

“India have an edge over New Zealand. It will be an exciting clash. Winning in Australia and vs England will be a confidence booster for India in the WTC final. Both the teams will be playing at a neutral venue. It will be a good contest. New Zealand are a good side. India can't take them lightly. The atmosphere will be different.” He added.
