It was towards Sammy – Tilak Varma explains his special celebration after his maiden international half-century
Tilak Varma was the top-scorer for India in their modest exploits against the Caribbean hosts as he smashed his first international half-century. Despite the regular encroachments of the Windies’ bowlers, Varma stayed his ground and played a controlled knock, allowing the Men in Blue to find a way out of the quagmire.
He had a very special celebration reserved for the magic number as he was seen pulling off some dance movies after racking up the fifty. In a post-innings interview, he explained what the celebration meant and why it was very special to him.
Talking about the celebration, Varma said, “It was towards Sammy, Rohit bhai’s daughter. I am very close to Sammy. I had promised her that whenever I will score a century or a fifty, I will do a celebration for her.”
He also shed some light about his relationship with Rohit Sharma, adding, “I will always talk to him. He has been my support system. He has always told me that I am made to play international cricket. I will talk to him and come back more stronger.”
