You can’t win the World Cup in one or two days - Rohit Sharma on India’s approach to the World Cup
Team India captain Rohit Sharma opened up about the importance of consistency in the preparatory phases for the Men in Blue in an interview with ICC that brought out a few crucial thoughts ahead of the quadrennial extravaganza.
As the tournament returns to home soil after a staggering 12 years, India would be hopeful of putting an end to their drought of not winning an ICC trophy for a decade now. However, the recently concluded West Indies series had a few questions that would need answering and Sharma, by his admission, is planning to work on that.
Talking to ICC about India’s last two appearances in the World Cup, Rohit said, “2015 and 2019, I was a part of it, which felt really good to play the World Cup. We went to the semi-finals, tried everything we could to go to the finals and played well in the finals, but again, a very unfortunate incident where we couldn't go through to the finals.”
He further added, “But hopefully, you know, we are back home again, so hopefully we can turn things around and there's still a long way to go. And you know you can't win the World Cup in one or two days. You gotta play well for an entire month, month and a half, and be consistent. So you know, we are trying everything we can, from our perspective, to make sure we are ready for the World Cup."
