Before the Royal Challengers Bangalore kick-off their campaign for the 13th year against the Kolkata Knight Riders, here’s a look at some of the number-ful memories associated with your favourite team and its players.

Chris Morris

422.2 - Our new Challenger Chris Morris holds record for the highest strike rate in a single innings by any batsman in the IPL

Ace all-rounder, Chris Morris holds the record for the highest strike rate (422.2) by a batsman in the history of the IPL. In the 2017 edition of the IPL, Chris Morris’s knock of 38(9) against the Rising Pune Supergiants remains to be one of the best cameos played by the Proteas cricketer. Chris Morris will look to scale greater heights and also emulate the same record playing for the Bangalore franchise.

229 runs – Highest partnership by runs in the IPL ft. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers

The Karan-Arjun of the RCB side – Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have been often involved in record partnerships for the Bangalore franchise over the years. The 229-run partnership against Gujarat Lions in 2016 remains to be one of the very best in the entire history of the IPL. The duo has been involved in 200+ run partnerships in two instances. It’s safe to say, “Name a better duo, we’ll wait.”

144 runs – The highest margin of win recorded by the Challengers

In the same encounter at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, both Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers scored centuries against Gujarat Lions taking the Royal Challengers Bangalore to a formidable score of 248 runs. In reply to the chase, Gujarat Lions lost wickets at the right intervals where wrecker-in-chief Chris Jordan (11/4) never allowed batsmen to stamp their authority on a batting-friendly wicket. The win against Gujarat Lions gave Challengers a much-needed momentum that eventually took Virat and Co. to their 3rd final of the IPL. This stands out to be the 2nd highest margin of win recorded by any team in the history of the IPL.

263/5 - Highest team total in Indian Premier League

Chris Gayle’s whirlwind knock (175*) against Pune Warriors India will forever be itched in the memories of the 12th man. It was one of the nights where the bowler or kind of deliveries they bowled mattered a little. Chris Gayle’s blitzkrieg consisted of 13 boundaries and 17 mammoth sixes. The crowd of the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium were in for something special as the batsman deposited every ball into the stands. The visiting side were at the receiving end as they found no answers to put a lid on scoring. Thanks to Chris Gayle’s knock, RCB finished with a colossal total of 263 runs. Pune Warriors received an early jolt when they lost both their openers in quick time. The collective effort from the RCB bowling line-up ensured that they won the game in a commendable fashion. The 130-run victory against Pune Warriors remains to be one of the highest margin win by a team in the history of the IPL.

At the same venue in 2016,RCB emulated a similar feat but the duo of Virat Kohl and AB de Villiers were the wreckers-in-chief. The two stalwarts of the game, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers forged a record 229-run partnership which helped RCB post 248 runs on board. RCB’s total of 263 and 248 feature in the top three of the highest team totals in the entire history of the IPL.

14 – Number of three-wicket hauls registered by Umesh Yadav

Seasoned campaigner Umesh Yadav stands third on the list of most number of three-wicket hauls taken by a bowler in the history of the IPL. The 32-year-old has so far registered 14 three-wicket hauls in his entire IPL career. Easily one of the most experienced Indian pacer in the roster, Umesh Yadav will look to bolster and shoulder the responsibility of the RCB bowling unit.

2,981 runs – Total number of runs scored by RCB in the 2016 season of IPL

The terrific trio – Virat Kohli (973), AB de Villiers (697) and KL Rahul (397) were wreckers-in-chief playing a pivotal role in changing the fortunes of the side en-route to the final in one of the most competitive IPL seasons till date.

Dale Steyn RCB

18 – Most number of dot balls bowled in a single innings by a RCB bowler (Yuzvendra Chahal and Dale Steyn)

In the inaugural season of the T20 league, Dale Steyn bowled 18 dot balls in the single innings against the Chennai Super Kings at the M.Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Coincidentally, after a span of 11 years, Yuzvendra Chahal had a déjà vu moment as he bowled the same number of dot balls at the same venue.

First captain of RCB - Rahul Dravid

Former Proteas wicketkeeper Mark Boucher bagged the first Man of the Match for the Challengers. Boucher's (39*) vital contribution with the bat helped RCB register their first win of the IPL against Mumbai Indians in the opening season of the cash-rich league.

One of India's best bowler, Zaheer Khan claimed the first wicket for the Challengers in the opening fixture of the inaugural season against the Knight Riders. Zaheer Khan scalped the price wicket of Sourav Ganguly in the sixth over of the innings.

Our very own, Rahul Dravid scored the first run for the franchise in the opening game of the Indian Premier League.

Can’t wait to see what our Challengers have in store for us this upcoming season, after all it’s the #NewDecadeNewRCB
