Indian trio make the cut for ICC Men's Test Team of the Year 2024
On the back of a year full of commanding performances in the Test format - three of India's stalwarts - Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja were named in the ICC Men's Test Team of the Year 2024.
Bumrah took 71 wickets in 2024 at a stunning average of 14.92, finishing as the highest wicket taker of the calendar year in the longest format of the game, with 32 out of the 71 scalps coming against Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian pacer also became the first international bowler to average under 20 with a minimum of 200 wickets in Test cricket. His exceptional performance in the whites cemented his place in cricketing folklore.
As for Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young left-handed opener was in mind-boggling form throughout the year, battering 1478 runs at an average of 54.74. He rocked England on home soil in merciless fashion, blasting 712 runs in the series which included a couple of double centuries and three half-centuries. He also amassed three fifties against Bangladesh as India got the better of the visitors and on the back of a string of impressive performances, there was no surprise as to Jaiswal's inclusion in the team.
Among the all-rounders, Jadeja was a standout performer as he scored 527 runs at an average of 29.27. With the ball, he accounted for 48 wickets at an average of 24.29.
