India-W hope to make it two in two against Netherlands-W in T20 World Cup 2026
The Indian women will be eager to carry forward the momentum secured from their massive win against Pakistan as they take the field again, this time against the Netherlands. India will play their second game of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Leeds.
Both the sides will be coming to this clash on the back of contrasting outcomes. India drubbed their arch-rivals, Pakistan clinically by a staggering margin while Netherlands were handed a shellacking by India’s Asian counterparts, Bangladesh.
With Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh and Harmanpreet Kaur in form, one would obviously expect for more fireworks. However, the remainder of the batting unit that was damp in the opener might choose this battle to get back to runs. The likes of Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues would love to get a few runs in their bank before they clash with their toughest opponent in the World Cup yet, South Africa.
Netherlands would be pinning their hopes on their captain, Babette de Leede who scored a half-century in their first game against Bangladesh. Despite not getting enough runs, Netherlands pushed Bangladesh to the final over, courtesy of Caroline de Lange who came up with the best figures of the lot.
For India, two names that would once again be the front-runners to flip the game in a blink will certainly be their two most prolific x-factors, Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma. Sharma claimed a fifer against Pakistan which would be keeping her spirits high while Richa’s late assault looked brilliant. Richa also got an incredible knock against England in India’s last warm-up game, boosting the hopes for the Indian team to secure a second win on the trot.
Venue watch:
The surface at Leeds has always been conducive for pacers. With the bounce being fairly true, batters will hope to get full value for their shots. However, there is also good amount of drift for the seamers while the spinners might also get a nod on the track. Watchful and smart batting can fetch plenty of runs but the new ball will always be the one to look out for.
