India skipper Virat Kohli is on the verge of breaking a host of records when he steps onto the field in the upcoming Test series against England. The series also marks its return to India after a year-long wait.

If the prolific batsman manages to score a century, he will break Ricky Ponting's record for most centuries by a captain across all formats. The Australian batting great and Kohli are currently tied with 41 centuries each.

Player Centuries
Ricky Ponting 41
Virat Kohli 41
Graeme Smith 33
Steve Smith 20
Michael Clarke 19

Other significant records Virat Kohli can break in the upcoming Test series

If India manage to win at least two matches, Virat will eclipse MS Dhoni to become the most successful Indian captain at home. Having led India in 60 Tests, Dhoni has won a total of 21 Test matches in India.
