Virat Kohli rejoined the formidable Indian unit that scripted history Down Under. The hosts will be keen to keep their home record intact, having won 9 successive Test series. India skipper in the press conference admitted that the birth of his daughter Varmika is undoubtedly the greatest moment in his life.

"Becoming a father has been the greatest moment of my life. I can't compare it to a series win. But the connection to the team doesn't go away even if I'm not there. We are invariably connected and I was watching all the action," Kohli said.

Kohli, who returned to India to be with his wife for the birth of their first child after the first Test in Australia, missed the remainder of the series. Even though he was away with the Indian team, the 32-year-old said his heart was always with the team. The skipper also acknowledged the efforts made by the whole team over the last six years.

“The connection with the team doesn’t go away in any situation, especially when you have given everything for the team, especially for the Test team for the last six years on a daily basis. Being motivated to take Test cricket on top, take Indian cricket on top and the whole group has put in so much effort." - he explained.

When asked about the bond he shares with his deputy Ajinkya Rahane, Kohli added: "We have mutual respect. We chat off the field as well and stay in touch. On the field, he has always had the capability and capacity to come and give me inputs at different stages of the game. I discuss a lot of things with him to get more clarity and a different perspective. That is a massive reason for India’s success in Test cricket."

The first Test between India and England is now underway at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
