India vs England, 2nd ODI: Virat Kohli on verge of new records
Every time he steps onto the field, there is a record in sight for Virat Kohli. As he takes on England in the second ODI, Virat Kohli will be on the verge of getting past another record.
Kohli is just 41 runs shy of going past South Africa opener Graeme Smith in the list of most ODI runs as a captain. In 93 ODIs as captain, Virat has accumulated 5376 runs.
If Kohli manages to score 41 runs, he will jump to the 5th spot in the list, which is led by former Australia captain Ricky Ponting.
Ponting scored 8497 runs in 234 ODIs as the captain of the Australia team. On no. 2 in the list is another Indian legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Dhoni amassed 6641 runs in 200 ODIs as the captain of the Indian team.
The third and fourth spots are occupied by Stephen Fleming and Arjuna Ranatunga respectively.
However, Virat Kohli has the best average among this lot, as he averages more than 70 in ODIs as the skipper of the team.
There’s another record Virat Kohli will be eyeing, he is just one century away from equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of most centuries (20) at home in ODIs. If he gets to a century, he will also be equalling Ricky
Ponting’s in the list of most number of centuries across formats. Right now, Ricky Ponting is second on the list with 71 centuries to his name.
