India suffers second straight defeat as Heinrich Klaasen puts on a batting masterclass

If the tournament opener wasn’t a warning loud enough, the Proteas provided yet another reminder of their capabilities on Sunday night. With the visitors up 2-0, it's going to be a long road ahead for Rishabh Plant's men to claw their way back into the series.

Temba Bavuma won the second toss of the series and asked India to bat. Despite Ishan Kishan’s early blitzkrieg with a handful of impressive strikes, India never really seemed comfortable in front of the marauding visitors.

It was the second-wicket partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan that helped India to stage a turnaround of affairs before the slide started and the hosts would be entailed in the midst of an unwanted storm with their batters barely breaking free.

However, a death overs clinic that we've become all too accustomed to from Dinesh Karthik helped India post a warring total on the board. Harshal Patel chipped in ably, guiding India to a fighting 148 for the loss of 6 wickets.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided a beacon of hope as he got rid of Reeza Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorius and Rassie van der Dussen early in the innings with three absolute peaches. Despite the other bowlers holding fort, it was Quinton de Kock’s replacement, Heinrich Klaasen who took the game away from India.

Despite a flurry of late scalps, it was way too late for India to impose any further damage on the visitors as they cantered away to the finishing line. David Miller would once again stay unbeaten to see South Africa through with 10 balls to spare.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for India as he would wring out a spell of 4 for 13 from his quota of 4 overs, while Harshal Patel would come up with figures of 1 for 17 from his 3.

With the series quickly slipping away from their hands, the hosts will be hoping to put up a much stronger fight at Vishakapatnam on Tuesday.
