Even if we fail, we will learn from that and grow as a player and grow as a team”, Shreyas Iyer on Team India
India had another unforgettable outing as they slumped to a second defeat on the bounce, and now will have to win all the three remaining encounters to have the last laugh in what has so far been a tough calendar year for the Indians whenever they have gone up against South Africa.
On a surface where batting seemed pretty difficult with the pitch doing its fair bit in the first innings and even in the initial overs of the second, Shreyas Iyer finished as India’s highest scorer with a crucial 40.
At the post-match conference, he would open up about what India’s current strategy in the series is, especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon. “Our main aim is obviously the World Cup, so we have to see to it that we plan towards it. So we have that sort of mindset where we are completely free and not thinking about anything else. These are the actual games where we can practice what we were lacking in the past. That's what we keep discussing in the team meeting as well. No matter what happens, whatever plans we discuss in the team meeting, we have to execute those. Even if we fail, we will learn from that and grow as a player and grow as a team. So that's more important till we reach Australia," he said.
“We have made this plan that we will keep going no matter what happens. Even if we keep losing wickets, it's our gameplan and in the future too, we will go in with the same mindset. We will back ourselves and back our instincts," he added.
India will once again be back in action on Tuesday as they take on South Africa for the third T20I at Visakhapatnam.
