India needs to get back to our winning ways – Sourav Ganguly

India will be one of the favourites to win the World Cup as the tournament returns to the sub-continent after a staggering 12 years. The last time the quadrennial event happened in India, the Men in Blue secured the title as MS Dhoni and company beat Sri Lanka in the grand finale to lift the trophy.

This time around, things will be different as Virat Kohli is the solitary member from that 2011 setup who will be a part of this team too. With all the remaining names and quite a few players being a part of the World Cup squad for the first time, a lot will have to be chalked down in terms of team combination.

Former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, believes that India will still be the favourites to win the World Cup 2024 but a change in mindset laced with renewed confidence will need to be the driving force.

Responding to Virender Sehwag’s question of whether India are the favourites for the tournament or not, Sourav Ganguly said, “Is #TeamIndia favourite because the World Cup is held in India or because we’re playing with strength and confidence @virendersehwag? Yes, we won against Aus in Aus, drew a series against England but then we lost to them both in big match situations. I think we have a solid team and a big chance, but we do need to get back to our winning ways before the #ICCworldCup23.”

Ahead of the crucial World Cup campaign, the Indian team will have all eyes on them in the Asia Cup and an important 3-match series against Australia which will act as proper preparation for the big event.
