India meet familiar foe in England as T20 World Cup semi-final challenge beckons in Mumbai

Following a sensational record win against the West Indies, India have set up a clash with England in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026. This is the third consecutive time India will meet England in a T20 World Cup knockout. In 2022, India were humbled by England’s superlative batting performance while in 2024, the Men in Blue avenged their defeat with a sensational bowling display.

India will be looking forward to replicate their performances in the last two matches where they beat Zimbabwe and West Indies after suffering a defeat at the hands of South Africa. England, on the other hand has been unbeaten in the Super Eights brushing aside challenges from Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand with consummate ease.

Both the sides have suffered one defeat so far in the fray: India bowed to South Africa in the Super Eights while England were beaten by West Indies in the group stages. The Men in Blue will be pinning their hopes on their batting unit which has come together in what has been a collective show of brilliance.

On the other hand, England has shown balance in both departments to make the cut for the semi-finals. Suryakumar Yadav has been the leading run-scorer for the Men in Blue while Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh still remain the best bets with the ball. For England, Harry Brook has been in dream nick with 228 runs in his tally while Will Jacks and Jacob Bethell are in fairly close range with some impressive numbers next to their names. With strengths in different spheres, one can expect a crackerjack of a battle to unfurl in Wankhede.

Venue watch:

The track in Wankhede has always been a batting friendly one and in all likelihood, it is going to be the same again. The new ball will do its bit but once the lacquer is off, then there will hardly be any unpredictable movement which will make life a lot easier for the batters. In the second half of the game, with the onset of the dew, the batters will have a paradise at their behest to score runs for fun.
