It was a bad day for India in the office as they were outplayed completely by New Zealand on Day 2 of the Pune Test match. Starting the day at 16/1, the batters went into a defensive husk and there was no retreat for them whatsoever from thereon. Shubman Gill was the first one to fall as Mitchell Santer removed him for 30.

In a shocking turn of affairs, Virat Kohli got bowled by a full-toss from Mitchell Santner. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the next one to stumble as Glenn Phillips removed him for 30. From thereon it was only a dive into madness as the Indian batters could barely stand the web of turn knitted around them by Mitchell Santner. India was skittled out for 156 as Santner claimed seven wickets.

The Kiwi batters started well in the second innings, courtesy of Tom Latham (86). Cameos from Devon Conway (17), Will Young (23) and Tom Blundell (30*) kept New Zealand afloat. At the end of the day they could manage 198/5, leading by 301 runs.

Brief scores:

New Zealand – 259/10 (Devon Conway – 76, Washington Sundar – 7/59)

India – 156/10 (Ravindra Jadeja – 38, Mitchell Santner – 7/53)

New Zealand – 198/5 (Tom Latham – 86, Washington Sundar – 4/56)
