India eyes total domination as series win lurks around the corner
Despite a fine win in the opener, India will have a few questions that will be needing answers after another precarious slide in the middle. As the contingency prepares for another T20 battle, Virat Kohli will have quite a few eyes transfixed upon him.
The Indian bowlers pulled off a decent job in the opener as debutant Ravi Bishnoi bagged the man of the match award with a brace and four exceptionally frugal overs while Harshal Patel returned a couple of wickets.
India’s batting starred a fine knock from Rohit Sharma who racked up early runs and set up the platform for India to fire home. However, in a quick twist, India saw Rohit, Ishan, Virat, and Pant departing in quick succession, opening up a spectrum of opportunities for the visitors.
As Rohit Sharma has already confirmed, there won’t be much experimentation, India is most likely to go forth with the same team that faced West Indies in the opener. The Islanders, on the contrary, will need to find answers to India’s spinning supremacy that has troubled them frequently.
Despite intermittent bursts of brilliance, their batters failed to hit their stride when it mattered to them the most. Even Pollard was relatively silent by his dynamic standards. More importantly, their bowlers conceded the game in the powerplay itself that saw Rohit hacking away at will.
Not much would change about the conditions as the surface at Eden Gardens has always favored the spinners.
There may be a few discussions about Deepak Chahar, given a severe blow to his hand while fielding. In case he is not available, India may resort to Mohammed Siraj to get the job done.
West Indies will be boosted by the return of Jason Holder who couldn’t play the opener after copping a blow to the chest. Even though the availability of Roston Chase will be a major talking point after a fine performance in the series opener.
The teams will be going at each other for the second time in the series with absolutely contrasting viewpoints, thanks to India’s win in the opener that will make West Indies more desperate than ever.
