RCB Class of 22: A look at our department of spinning talismans for IPL 15

19 Feb, 2022 By Editor

We have almost covered all the departments when it comes to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Class of 22. The last one that remained for this entire series was our enigmatic turners, who are touted to make wonders happen and completed our fiery bowling attack.

Let us quickly take a look at the elite posse of spinners who can spin their world through anything, brewing a tornado in the 22 yards that would leave batters rattled in its wake.

1.    Wanindu Hasaranga

Probably 2021 was not his year when it came to IPL but he is one of the finest leg-break bowlers in the shortest format of the game. His devastating spells left India reeling on their tour of Sri Lanka. Before testing positive for Covid, he claimed five wickets from the two games that he has so far played against Australia. He is also a crucial batter towards the tail end of an innings which has seen him chipping in with 15-20 crucial runs. He has a staggering 57 wickets at a strike rate of 12.9 and all of it has come at a miserly economy rate of 6.39.

2.    Aneeshwar Gautam

A mind-blowing young sensation, a pick for the future, and countless dreams taking flight, Aneeshwar Gautam will have quite a few eyes set on him when he takes the field for the Challengers. He was a part of the all-conquering U19 World Cup squad and provided a few crucial breaks to the Indian cricket team. He will have a long way to go when the big guns take the field but even Virat was an u19 kid in 2008.

3.    Karn Sharma

An experienced campaigner in the rank of all-rounders for the Royal Challengers Bangalore will be taking over the spinning mantle in the fifteenth season of the tournament. Falling in the rare category of wrist spinners, Karn Sharma can flip the ball by a good deal and mix it up decently with a variation of pace. He is also a fine striker of the ball and can also add 15-20 crucial runs to the fold.

4.    Shahbaz Ahmed

Shahbaz was a part of 13 IPL matches that saw him claiming 9 wickets at a fine economy rate of 6.8. He is a pretty underrated spinner but his presence in the lineup always makes it very unpredictable for the batters, given his ability to leave them bamboozled with his wicked spin. In the absence of senior pros in Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar, Shahbaz is likely to get his first taste as one of the frontline spinners in RCB colors come IPL 2022.
