If not in India, we will host the tournament in the UAE: Ganguly on 2021 T20 World Cup
While India is battling through a deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the authorities are working tirelessly to flatten the infection curve by imposing strict guidelines. There is some uncertainty surrounding the 2021 T20 World Cup, which is set to take place in India later this year. The International Cricket Council has yet to make a decision on the host nation and has given the BCCI time until June 28th to confirm whether or not the tournament can be held in India.
On Tuesday, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly told Hindu Sportstar that they have time to give their consent and that if hosting the tournament in India is not possible, then UAE will be the venue. He also stated that the BCCI will have hosting rights regardless of where the tournament is held.
“The BCCI has time till June 28 to host the World Cup in India. If not, we will host the tournament in the UAE. But the BCCI will have the hosting rights,” BCCI President Sourav Ganguly told Hindu Sportstar.
On venues available in the UAE
“In case the tournament is shifted to the UAE, then we are adding up another venue. They are thinking about whether there should be three or four venues,” Ganguly added.
The ICC issued a statement saying, a final decision will be made by the end of this month. The Apex Body also confirmed that the upcoming T20 World Cup will be hosted by the BCCI.
“A final decision on the host country will be taken later this month. The Board also confirmed that the BCCI will remain the hosts of the event regardless of where the event is played," the ICC said in a statement on Tuesday.
