Rahul Dravid is set to take over as India's head coach for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The tour will feature a certain number of youngsters who have gotten their first national call up. This series will take place while the main team prepares for a five-match Test series against the Three Lions in England.

Coach Ravi Shastri has been at the helm since 2017. During his tenure, Team India has achieved a variety of successes. It is worth noting that his contract expires this year, and the BCCI might perhaps be looking for candidates to replace him as head coach. Talking to India News Sports, Reetinder Singh Sodhi explained why he feels Dravid is the best choice to be the next head coach.

"First of all, we have to acknowledge that Ravi Shastri has done a great job as a coach. And yes, his contract is coming to an end. But let's think about it… a temporary arrangement and that too Rahul Dravid? I think it's virtually impossible. If he is going to Sri Lanka as the head coach, somewhere it's a clear indication that he is in line. If there's anyone that can replace Ravi Shastri as a coach, that person is Rahul Dravid," Reetinder Sodhi told India News Sports.

If there is a replacement, Dravid is very much in line: Sodhi

"I'm sure he must have been asked about it. Had he wanted to remain director of cricket or NCA head, he could have easily said no. He is a family man; he could have stayed in Bengaluru. But he has taken the responsibility. He is going and wants the team to do well. I feel that if there is a replacement, Dravid is very much in line. Such a legendary player can never be a temporary option," he said.

The white-ball series between Team India and Sri Lanka begins on July 13. There will be three T20Is and as many ODIs in the series. The 20-member Indian contingent has reached the island nation and is now subject to mandatory isolation upon arrival.
