I will take that win any day - Rohit Sharma ecstatic after India’s win over England
India enjoyed a comfortable outing against England in their World Cup 2023 encounter as they scripted a remarkable 100-run win, with the bowlers pulling things back after an average display with the bat. However, in the midst of the storm, Rohit Sharma stood tall and essayed an 87-run masterclass that eventually fuelled India to a competitive 229 on the board.
Despite three wickets gone early, Rohit was in no mood to stand down as he kept on smashing away at the English bowlers. He had some support from KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, who both contributed with crucial knocks. Awarded the Player of the Match for his match-defining knock that comprised 10 fours and three sixes, Rohit opened up at length on his day out with the bat during the presentation ceremony.
Talking about the early overs and how the partnership with KL Rahul changed everything, Rohit said, “Looking at where we were after the first 10 overs it was really important to create that partnership with KL Rahul. It was a challenging pitch, it got better to bat on as the game progressed, but happy with that win.”
He further added, “I have got experience, it's not only about going out there and playing my shots (got to assess the conditions and situation) as well. It was necessary for me to create that partnership with KL.”
The Indian captain concluded by voicing his opinions about the scores on the board at the halfway mark and how they went about it from thereon, stating, “I still felt we were 20 runs short (at the halfway stage). Batting against the new ball was a bit challenging, the ball got softer and it wasn't easy rotating strike either. Like I said we were 20-30 runs short, but I will take that win any day.”
