Top Indian performers against England ft Mohammed Shami
Team India registered an emphatic victory against England to make it six out of six. However, that victory had a few hiccups that needed to be taken care of. India’s batting didn’t really pan in the way they would have wanted things to but yesterday’s victory was a testimony to how the Men in Blue have prepared them for all sorts of outcomes in the ongoing World Cup.
There was a wide array of performances that defined the day for the hosts which included a handful of feisty displays from the Indian batting unit but the show-stealer of the day was none other than their bowling unit who posted a rippling showdown to restrict the Three Lions to a paltry 129. Here are the top three Indian performers against England.
1. Rohit Sharma – 87 (101)
The Indian captain was at his very best against a formidable English unit as he first bailed out the top-order of the immediate jeopardy that they were caught in the midst of after Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer fell early. Pairing alongside KL Rahul, he kept on firing on all cylinders. By the time he was done, he had already smashed 87 runs that comprised 10 fours and a six.
2. Mohammed Shami - 4/22
The ace Indian quick had another impressive game in his belt where he rocked the English batting unit with a superlative display. Clinching four crucial wickets that featured the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid. More importantly, out of the four wickets claimed by him, three of the batters were bowled while Moeen Ali was perplexed by the ball swinging away from him as he nipped one to KL Rahul.
3. Jasprit Bumrah – 3/32
Jassi has been in the form of his life in the ongoing World Cup as he extended his brilliance to another glittering chapter and this time at the receiving end of his firing line was England. It was Bumrah’s double whammy that left England reeling with Dawid Malan and Joe Root falling in no time. Eventually it was the ace Indian fast bowler to finish things off for the Men in Blue as he castled through the defences of Mark Wood to propel India to a resonating victory.
