India captain Rohit Sharma pulled off a surprising move in the second Super Over of the third T20I against Afghanistan in Bengaluru, throwing the ball to Ravi Bishnoi with the youngster tasked with defending 12 runs.

The move, however, paid rich dividends as the spinner removed Mohammad Nabi off the first ball, and two balls later, forced a mishit from Rahmanullah Gurbaz straight down Rinku Singh’s throat at long off to bring about a famous win for India with Afghanistan putting on only one run on the board.

Being a spinner is never easy in a Super Over, particularly considering the fact that the batters will come at you. This is exactly what Ravi Bishnoi wanted and the job was extremely well done. Talking in an interview on the sidelines after the match, Bishnoi talked in detail about his bowling gameplan in the Super Over.

Bishnoi said, “The pressure was there, the heartbeat was racing, but I was confident about getting the job done. I was told by the captain that I'll bowl - I knew it wouldn't be easy for them if I bowl back of the length ball, it would be tough to smash on the back-foot.”

The young leg-spinner concluded by saying, “It gives a lot of pleasure to defend during the Super Overs. I'm happy with the way the ball is leaving my hand. My only thought is to ensure that the batter doesn't get himself used to only one type of delivery, I've worked on my leg-spin in the nets and at the domestic levels.”
