I think Rohit has earned the right to walk on his own terms – Michael Clarke
Rohit Sharma hasn’t had the best of outings Down Under in 2024-25 and will be hopeful of showcasing his calibre in Sydney, if he is part of the playing XI.
However, even if he isn’t, former Australia captain, Michael Clarke has made it clear that Rohit’s legend is unquestionable and he has earned it with his incredible credentials.
Talking to ESPN, Michael Clarke said, “The numbers are interesting. It happens with several players. For some people, captaincy helps; for others, it doesn't. I certainly feel he will play in Sydney. They won't drop him. I think Rohit has earned the right to walk on his own terms, and he is the captain, and when you are leading the side, you get a bit of leeway.”
There were rumours of Rohit retiring from Test cricket after the Sydney battle. Clarke shared his piece of mind on the topic, stating, “The numbers don't read great. I'm not sure if Sydney will be his last. I'm not sure what he is thinking Test cricket-wise, nor do I know how he feels captaincy-wise.”
Sydney is going to be a crucial battle for Team India. If they are to stay alive in the ongoing World Test Championship, they will have to win the last Test.
