Asha Sobhana hogged the limelight in the WPL 2024 season with a flurry of extraordinary displays. She started the tournament with a fifer that propelled RCB to a thrilling win against the UP Warriorz. She continued her dream run throughout the tournament, dishing out a leg-spinning masterclass.

With 12 wickets from 10 games at an economy rate of 7.11, Asha took a quantum-leap from her performances in the preceding edition of the tournament. Not only did she impress in the WPL, but she also left a lasting impact against Bangladesh and South Africa in the following contests that she played for India, claiming eight wickets in her last five matches.

Her incredible display of genius and control earned her a spot in the T20 World Cup squad and despite starting late, she has made it to the peak. Talking to India.com, she revealed how she is not afraid of her age while citing references of other greats of the game who arrived late and yet earned the highest of honours.

Asha said, “Like everyone, I just got to know from the BCCI app, got the notification. I am very happy because I had worked very hard for this. It’s a very big thing I know and I am looking forward to doing my best. Winning the World Cup is everyone’s dream. I want to do my best for my country whenever I get a chance.”

Spilling the beans on how she motivates herself. Asha said, “It’s all about the way you see things. Of course I was a little late to come to this stage but I don’t see myself as a little old and I have to be careful. I just remind myself that I am a cricketer and I have to do my best as long as I play cricket.”

She further added, “We have the best example in our Indian women’s cricket team (referring to Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami). Our T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav also came in very late and the way he played and won the World Cup, these are the best examples to look up to.”

Asha concluded by talking about her goal in the tournament, stating, “Go match by match, do your best and win the first-ever Women’s World Cup for India.”
