I definitely believe in my instincts – Shreyas Iyer on his batting calibre

Shreyas Iyer took over the reins of the Indian side from Suryakumar Yadav after India’s triumph in the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, Iyer’s captaincy had a shocking start to it, as the Men in Blue were drubbed 2-0 in the T20I series against Ireland.

Talking in the pre-match presser ahead of India’s opening clash against England, Iyer opened up about if juggling captaincy and batting have been challenging for him. However, Iyer feels that he is actually in great shape with the bat and it’s just the odd ball that got him against Ireland.

He also mentioned how he has put it behind him and is looking forward to do better against England.

The Indian captain said, “The way I am timing the ball in the nets, it’s even in the match previous game. I thought that I was timing brilliantly. Just the odd ball bounced and took an inner edge. It doesn’t justify how my batting is or how much pressure is taking. I definitely believe in my instincts. I know how well I play under pressure. So I just want to keep that faith in me and go forward in the upcoming matches.”
