I cannot put it in words – Tilak Varma on scoring his maiden T20I century
Tilak Varma played a gem of an innings in Centurion, conjuring a mind-boggling century to propel India to a clinical win against South Africa. He stayed unbeaten for 107 runs from just 56 balls, doing the majority of the heavy lifting for the Indian cricket team as they got to 219/6 from 20 overs on being asked to bat first, a total that proved to be enough for the bowlers to defend and help the visitors pocket a 11-run win.
Talking at the post-match presentation, Tilak highlighted the fact that it was a dream come true moment for him.
Speaking about the match and about his physical state after hitting the ground with his head on attempting a catch, Tilak said, “I am okay. It was a difficult chance but I am happy we won the game. I cannot put it in words. It was my dream to play for the country and the hundred came at the right time when the team needed it.”
He also thanked his captain for the incredible opportunity, adding, “All credit to Mr. Suryakumar Yadav, our captain. He gave me the opportunity to bat at 3 and told me to express myself. Thanks to him again (turns back at SKY and smiles).”
Varma concluded by underlining the conditions, stating, “I just backed my basics. Pitch was two paced to start with and it wasn't easy for the new batters coming in when Abhishek got out. I was ready to bat long and was waiting for one partnership.”
