I believe that I can return to international cricket – Faf du Plessis
As RCB skipper Faf du Plessis plies his trade in the Abu Dhabi T10, the dynamic opener dropped a major hint on his possible return to international cricket. Faf has been a reckoning force in franchise cricket for a while now and his days of glory at RCB have been aplenty.
From two seasons as RCB captain, du Plessis has amassed 1198 runs, 730 of which came from 14 games in the 2023 season - keeping him firmly in the race for the Orange Cap before Shubman Gill eventually won it.
Talking about his return to international cricket on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi T10, Faf said, “I believe that I can return to international cricket as well. We have been speaking about this for the last couple of years. It's just figuring out the balance of the T20 World Cup next year. It's certainly something we have spoken about with the new coach. Watch this space.”
He further added, “I do a lot of hard work to ensure I look after my body to be able to play this brilliant game we love so much. When you do get a little bit older, you have to make sure you put in the work. Otherwise, the hamstring and other body parts do not work that well. There is a lot of fast running and a lot of stuff to make sure that you can play against the best players in the world.”
It will be interesting to see if South Africa decides to bring back the opener into their international fold again or not, particularly in these shaky times where the team has struggled to find their foothold in absence of significant experience in their echelons.
