One of India’s most exciting batting talents, Rajat Patidar earned himself a Test debut for India’s second game of the five-match series against England.

In an exclusive interview with the BCCI ahead of the match, Patidar shared insights about his batting and also how certain bigger names in the echelons helped him, motivated him and most importantly showed him the path in the long run of diligence.

Shedding some light on his batting style, Patidar said, “My batting style is quite aggressive in domestic cricket. It’s there in the habit. It’s all about preparation. I try to study the opposition’s bowling patterns and how the field synchronizes with it. I observe how Rohit bhai tackles the subtle changes in the field too. I will try to add these to my own game.”

Emphasizing on his admiration for Virat Kohli, Rajat said, “I always observe Virat Kohli’s batting from behind the nets. Especially his footwork and his body movement for the balls that pitch slightly fuller, that is the best thing about him and I absolutely enjoy that. I want to add those skills to my repertoire. It’s not easy but I am determined to get it.”

He concluded by saying, “If I have to express my emotion in one word, I would say ‘excited’”.

Patidar will step onto the field after being handed Test cap No.310, and is likely to slot into the middle order in KL Rahul’s absence.
