Hopefully we can go one better and win on Sunday – Georgia Wareham
It was a dramatic finish at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as RCB-W clinched a sizzling victory against Mumbai Indians in the playoff of WPL 2024 to grab their ticket to the grand finale.
Amidst all the staggering numbers, Georgia Wareham played a crucial role both with the bat and the ball in her hands as her last-ball six came in handy. However, her numbers with the ball were equally brilliant as she claimed the all-important wicket of Nat Sciver-Brunt while grabbing an important catch of Hayley Matthews.
Talking at the post-match presentation, Wareham underlined quite a few topics, shedding light on how the match progressed and how the seniors stepped up in a colossal situation like this to get RCB-W sailing through. Shedding some light on the prolonged discussions, Wolfie said, “Not really sure, we fought through the end, every time we got together, we spoke about fighting till the end.”
She also spoke about how Devine and Smriti led the charge on the field, adding, “I have no idea, it worked out for us at the end of the day. Smriti and Sophie Devine were the ones who were trying to keep us calm and it was really cool from them.”
Wolfie also revealed what happened during that last-ball six of hers, stating, “Swung as hard as I possibly could, sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't, luckily it did tonight.”
Talking about whether she could be called an all-rounder or not, Wareham said, “Not sure about that, I try to have an impact on the game, whether it is about 10 balls or anything.”
She also spoke about the priceless Ellyse Perry, adding, “Perry's experience kept the innings going tonight and gave us something to defend. The other night she did it with the ball. She impacts the game in all facets of the game. To have someone like that on your team is invaluable and it's lucky we have her at RCB.”
Wolfie concluded by saying, “It's hard to hear and it's cool to hear the RCB chants and the crowd yelling out Smriti and Perry's names is really cool and hopefully we can go one better and win on Sunday.”
