History penned at Navi Mumbai as India-W vanquish England-W in one-off Test
The Indian women’s cricket team penned history at Navi Mumbai as they chronicled a monumental win over England in the one-off Test. It was a delightful performance from the Indian bowlers who skittled out England twice in two days for a score below 140.
Starting the third day of the Test, Harmanpreet Kaur declared where they finished yesterday, posting a target of 479 for the visitors to win. The Indian bowlers were back in business in no time as Renuka Singh barrelled through the defences of Tammy Beaumont for 17.
Pooja Vastrakar’s double whammy in two consecutive deliveries knocked England into an uncharted territory of déjà vu from the first innings as she first claimed Sophia Dunkley, who holed out to point while the seasoned Nat Sciver-Brunt had her timber rattled.
Heather Knight’s brief resistance found an end at the hands of Pooja Vastrakar who was relentless in the second innings to make England suffer as the English skipper departed for 21. Dani Wyatt didn’t last long either as Deepti Sharma removed her for 12. Barring Charlie Dean, the remainder of the English batting unit carried forth a formality as they were no match for the Indian bowlers.
Deepti Sharma claimed another four-fer, bagging the scalps of Wyatt, Amy Jones, Kate Cross and Lauren Filer to help India clean up the English resistance and pocket the contest. With this victory, Indian women avenged their earlier ado in the shortest format of the game as they went down fighting 2-1 in the T20I series.
