The Indian women’s cricket team emerged victorious in an excellent display of all-round brilliance as England were skittled out for 131 in the second innings while chasing a monumental total of 479.

Deepti Sharma was once again the star of the show, clinching a four-fer that saw her bagging the Player of the Match award for this one-off Test. Batting first, India posted 428 with collective efforts from their batters.

However, it was Deepti Sharma who shocked the world with an incredible display with the ball in her hands as she claimed a fifer in no time at all, rampaging through the English tail.

Come second innings, the Indian captain, Harmanpreet Kaur played a knock of an unbeaten 44 to propel the hosts to a mammoth lead of 478 runs before the Indian bowlers made quick work of an English side that was teeming with experience and brilliance. Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma were the tormentors-in-chief for the host as the duo plundered seven wickets between them.

Talking at the post-match ceremony, Deepti said, “Feeling very good, I was waiting for this day. Feeling very proud as we executed our plans. Happy with the results. I tried to keep calm.”

Shedding some light on the overall performance of the team, Deepti added, “We focussed on building partnerships, pleased we could execute it. Was getting a lot of help from the wicket, so tried to bowl in the right areas.”

She concluded by her captain’s crucial advice that helped her in bagging those important wickets, stating, “Harmanpreet was advising me to bowl in the right areas. Will try to keep doing the same things going forward.”
