His leadership is very inspirational - R Ashwin on Virat Kohli’s captaincy

Ravichandran Ashwin provided a detailed insight into the leadership styles of various captains, encompassing three of India’s most successful captains, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Talking on Vimal Kumar’s YouTube channel, the seasoned Indian off-spinner highlighted how the captaincy styles of the three skippers are different.

Talking about MS Dhoni, Ashwin said, “Dhoni’s stability as a player is something I admired. He provides opportunities and gives players a long run. Jadeja was groomed as a finisher under Dhoni and has become an excellent all-rounder.”

Shedding light on Virat Kohli’s captaincy, Ashwin said, “Kohli leads from the front. Whatever he demands from the team, he does it himself first. His leadership is very inspirational.”

He also talked about Rohit’s style, stating, “Rohit is tactically strong and puts in considerable effort before series or big matches by analysing with the analytics teams and coaches. He keeps the environment light and backs his players well.”

He concluded by talking about Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy style with a contrast to Rohit’s stating, “Gambhir is very intense about his captaincy, which is similar to Rohit but with a higher degree of intensity.”
