A companion, an ever-reliable mentor, and an amicable comrade - father's role in life is extremely vital because it has a startling impact on the child's personal and professional development. Several parents, who have failed to fulfil their goals and aspirations, pass the baton on to the kids. Rajesh Dube, a sportsperson himself, foresaw Shivam's big-hitting prowess at a very young age. From then on, his father focussed chiefly on moulding his son into a fearless cricketer. The father-son duo used to put in the hard yards. But, as we know, the challenges we face stem from situations beyond our control.

In 2006, the financial crisis battered Dube's family. The situation had spiralled out of control to such an extent that he had to give up on his dreams to represent the country. The downfall is not really the end of a narrative, and it should not deter the individual from achieving his objectives. Having a stoic mentality certainly helps during such troubled times. His father, however, exhorted Shivam to behold positives, even in adverse situations. With a lot riding on him, the southpaw staked his claim in several high profiles tournaments, before making his way into the Indian set up.

Shivam Dube, recollecting an event where his father's piece empowered him to reach greater heights in life, said: “My father was the biggest motivator during that tough time. He used to say, ‘So what have you lost 5 years? You can still become a good cricketer. Even today he continues to be my biggest strength. He has done everything for me."

Obstacles are a natural part of anyone's life. It gives an insight into how the person deals with adversaries. Rajesh Dube would be a beaming father after witnessing his son's rapid progress in the international and domestic front.
