A number of players to watch out for in RCB: Simon Katich
01 Sep, 2020 By Abhishek Chaudhary

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s head coach Simon Katich thinks that the team has a number of players to watch out for in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Katich who was with Kolkata Knight Riders earlier said that he had been noticing the young talent at RCB.

“Having watched from far, being at KKR the last couple of years I did notice that there is a lot of young talent at RCB. They were not always playing all the time, so I guess the big thing now is that whenever they get those opportunities, grab them and run with it,” said Katich.

“But there’s probably a number of young guys. Padikkal has not played IPL yet but he had a magnificent season for Karnataka so will be interesting to see where he is after this break,” he further added.

Katich thinks that a number of players at RCB have their best years in front of them.

“Then you have obviously got a young bowler like Mohammed Siraj who was at Sunrisers Hyderabad and now has been at RCB for a couple of years. He is still a young player. To me, someone like Pawan Negi is still a young player. He is just 27; anyone sub thirty to me is a young player because to me their best year is still in front of him. Shahbaz Ahmed did very well for Bengal last year in all formats so he is another exciting young player.”

Katich did not forget to mention Washington Sundar and an “exciting” Joshua Philippe who turned heads at the BBL and now is with the senior Australia team in England. The wicketkeeper is known for his clean hitting and ability to bat at different positions.

“Washington Sundar, he is a current T20 player. He is only 20-21, so he still young, and then you have got Shivam Dube as well who came on the scene last year. When you look at from that perspective there is a lot of young talent… and then throw in young Josh Philippe who is an outstanding young talent for Australia. So, this is an exciting group to work with. We are looking forward to stuck in now and doing the work with them,” added the former Australia batsman.
