Happy birthday, Sophie Devine – The White Fern with a vicious fury

Over the years, we have had quite a few renowned batters terrorizing the opposition in the RCB threads. Whether it was the Universe Boss Chris Gayle, or Mr. 360, AB de Villiers, whether it was Virat Kohli or Will Jacks, whether it was Ellyse Perry or the White Fern, Sophie Devine, the RCB fans have loved all of it. Talking about the White Fern, it’s her birthday today and she continues to entertain fans, on and off the field.

As Sophie Devine celebrates her 35th birthday, we decided to take a walk down the memory lane to celebrate one of her whirlwind knocks for RCB that would go down in history of the WPL as one of the finest and the most destructive knocks ever played.

In the WPL 2023 season, RCB-W had their fates dangling by a thread and they were asked to chase a monumental 189 by the Gujarat Giants.

For the first four balls faced by Devine, she was calm and soaked in the atmosphere. It was the fourth ball that she faced where she was up against Asleigh Gardner and was quick to get down on one knee, slog sweeping her for a maximum over the deep backward square leg region. The next ball raced away to the fence as she drove with all her power.

The boundaries started deluging and that particular over from Gardner saw her conceding 24 runs. Sophie blasted two sixes and four fours. That was just the start for the ‘Devine’ madness that would leave the Giants on a path of meteoric retreat.

She completed her half-century in the 20th ball which she faced, launching a tossed up delivery from Harleen Deol over the long-on fielder. She showed no relent and no mercy as she peppered the bowlers into every single nook and cranny of the park. By the time she fell agonizingly short of a century, RCB had cruised to 157 by 11.5 overs, just an overwhelming ode to Sophie Devine’s fury.

We wish her a very happy birthday as she continues to rock and roll with the bat and the ball in her hands. Have a blast, Soph.
