Great honour for me to have been voted the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October: Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli had a fine run in the recently concluded T20 World Cup where he smashed a number of milestones and created a few of his own, thanks to the sheer staggering numbers on the card, as he led India’s batting unit emphatically.
Despite India being eliminated in the semi-final, Kohli finished as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 296 runs scored at a stunning average of 98 plus and he also stitched four half-centuries in his incredible run to the semi-final.
In the tournament, he went past Rohit Sharma to become the highest run-scorer in the antiquity of T20Is while he also surpassed Mahela Jayawardene to become the highest run-scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup. He also became the first cricketer to rack up 4000 T20I runs.
Owing to his superlative display, Virat Kohli had been adjudged as the ICC Player of the Month for October 2022 as he registered 205 runs in the month, topping the charts for the highest run-scorers. Reacting to the award, Kohli said, “It is a great honour for me to have been voted the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October. Being chosen as the standout player by fans across the globe as well as the panel makes this accolade even more special for me."
He further added, “I want to pay tribute to the other nominees who performed so well during the month and also to my teammates, who continue to support me to perform to the best of my ability.”
Kohli will be returning to the Indian cricket team for the Bangladesh tour where India will be a part of an important Test series that can very well seal the fate of the WTC finalists.
