Glenn Maxwell Opens Up On Playing In India
Glenn Maxwell has been an implacable force in the shorter formats of the sport that has seen him wreaking havoc for Australia in the international circuit and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. However, the hard-hitting showman desperately wants to be a part of the Australian team in Whites and recently expressed disappointment at not getting an opportunity to be a part of the playing eleven against Sri Lanka in the two-match Test series.
Maxwell is a staple of the Australian ODI and T20I side but has not featured in a red-ball contest since 2017 at the international level. After a staggering wait of five years, he was added to the Test squad that was touring Sri Lanka. It isn’t just his form in the shorter formats of the game that he wants to base his return to Test cricket upon, but he has also decided to be a part of a couple of Sheffield Shield games ahead of the Big Bash League to drive further towards his goal of playing a Test for Australia.
Talking to Cricket.Com.au, Maxwell spoke about starring in first-class cricket again. “It's exciting, I haven't played (first-class cricket) since 2019. I did actually have a look at the schedule properly yesterday and I think I'm going to be available for a couple of Shield games before the Big Bash. It's nice to have that to look forward to and potentially get some red-ball cricket finally,” he said.
The RCB all-rounder has also said that being a part of the Test squad has stoked up his desire of playing in the longest format of the game too. Further adding to his words about being a part of the domestic squad, he said, “It's been a long time, and having that taste of just being in the Test squad was so exciting and reinvigorated and reminded myself of where I want to be. It's something that I've made no secret about, that I really want to play Test cricket again and I'm just hoping by the end of the summer hopefully I can be somewhere around that Test squad.”
Maxwell also said that being a part of the Australian side for the upcoming series against India will be a massive honor for him. He is an integral part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Indian cricket fans have a special predilection for the Big Show. “I've been there more times than my Indian wife, so I think I'm well accustomed to the area and well accustomed to the people. It's somewhere where I feel really comfortable, and I've played a lot of cricket over there. I know that if I can get that opportunity, I know that it's going to be something that feels comfortable for me and somewhere I know I can be successful,” concluded Maxi.
