From Mayank Agarwal to Harry Brook: Top five batters at the auction ahead of IPL 2023
21 Dec, 2022 By Editor

In less than two days we have another IPL mini-auction that is already knocking on the doors and with all the speculations blowing through the roof, we thought maybe we should add a few more. Out of the 405 players up for this newest edition of the auction, there are a few impressive names that have already been doing the rounds to make the cut.

As we talk about batters, they come in different attacking mindsets and variables, with a few going big right from the start while others taking their time early in their innings to blaze a blitz in the latter half of their innings. With all said and done, here are the top five batting aspects that may look extremely lucrative in terms of money and also their cherry-smacking flair.

1.    Mayank Agarwal

Needless to say, the former Punjab Kings captain will be doing quite a few significant ripples in the auction room. Known for his hard-hitting prowess, Mayank Agarwal can give an early lift to any side that chooses to rope him in. Given his fearless batting in the early overs, he is a specialist of the powerplay and if he gets going, one would know that the writings are already on the wall of an upcoming apocalypse for the opposition.

2.    Harry Brook

The English batter had been in phenomenal touch ever since his arrival on the international circuit. In fact, his T20 numbers are also pretty encouraging as he has amassed 2432 runs from 99 matches at an average of 33.37 and a strike rate of 148.38. The presence of Harry Brook in any batting unit provides solidity in the middle-order and also warrants for an unchecked flurry of strikes that can up the ante for the side he is on in the latter half of the game.

3.    Rilee Rossouw

The Protean biffer has already shown the world that he can change the complexion of the game almost single-handedly. He has a string of exquisite strokes in his arsenal and can power an early blitz which can be another plus factor for any side that wishes to onboard him. Rilee Rossouw’s impressive figures of 6944 T20 runs coming at an overwhelming strike rate of 143.20 may very well be the required checkpoints that the IPL teams may have in their lists to shape their units ahead of the latest season.

4.    Rohan Kunnumal

Hailing all the way from Kerala, Rohan has made some important noises in the domestic circuit of late. He is not one of those cricketers who go berserk from the very start. He likes to build his knocks and once in control, he starts driving harder. He has managed to smack 531 runs from 19 matches so far in domestic T20s with a pretty stunning average of 33.18. He has also managed to rack up 4 half-centuries that makes him a pretty fascinating pick in the upcoming IPL auction.

5.    Tom Banton

Touted as a big match player in his early days, Tom Banton made some early ripples. Unfortunately, he failed to live up to his expectations and has somehow fallen from the early pedestal. However, he still holds a reputation for striking the ball pretty hard. If given the acquiescence to go big from ball one, Tom Banton is altogether a different beast that one can only imagine about in the shortest format of the game. With all the big names in the mix, Banton can be one of those dark horses who steals the show right in time.
