From Georgia Wareham to Richa Ghosh – RCB-W’s top three performers against Gujarat Giants

The Royal Challengers Bangalore Women fought valiantly in Delhi against the Gujarat Giants but eventually fell short of the finish line. Batting first, the Giants posted 199 as the RCB-W bowlers managed to pull things back in the dying embers. However, an early stutter for Smriti and company left them with a lot to do towards the second half of the chase.

As things stand, RCB-W still occupy the second position of the points table but then the equations are subject to change as the rest of the teams have a match in hand to play. Before we proceed further, here are our top three performers from last night’s clash against GG.

1.    Georgia Wareham – 48 (22)

Wareham was out on a mission and she made it clear without wasting any time whatsoever. She rocked Kathryn Bryce for a boundary to get off the mark on the very first ball. Shabnam Ismail and Ashleigh Gardner didn’t have any reprieve either as they were being hammered by Wareham. Tanuja Kanwar, the leading wicket-taker for GG went for a four and a six in back to back deliveries against Wolfie’s imperious hard-hitting reign. Meghna Singh suffered a similar fate too but then the heroics from Wolfie could only last until the halfway mark of the 18th over as she was run-out agonizingly short of a brilliant fifty.

2.    Richa Ghosh – 30 (21) and four dismissals

Ghosh did get off to a very good start and continued battling alongside Perry but her early fireworks gave way to a fizzle as she fell for a brilliant 30 which came under the pump. Not only was she impressive with the bat but her keeping excellence was on display too as she was involved in four dismissals featuring three run-outs and a stumping.

3.    Smriti Mandhana – 24 (16)

Chasing a 200-run target always needs a great start and Mandhana obliged. She took a while before bringing out the cannons from her arsenal. It all started off with a double-bout of maximums against Tanuja Kanwar while lashing a loosener to the fence that came onto her pads in the same over. Mandhana also had a scoop coming along the way before she would finally be undone by Kathryn Bryce.
