The Men in Blue secured a second consecutive T20I series against New Zealand in the latter’s home after the rain gods intervened, forcing the DLS Method into play. Despite India’s win however, there were a few questions that were posed about the omissions of Umran Malik and Sanju Samson.

The Indian captain wasn’t taking any questions about the team selection and when poked about Samson and Umran, he crafted a solid response and made it clear that the team was based on the requirements of the game.

Talking at the post-match conference, Pandya said, “First things first, who is saying what outside, doesn't really affect us at this level. This is my team and I'll pick the best side after discussing it with the coach. There is ample time. Everyone will get their chances and when they do, it will be a long run. This was a small series, if we had more matches then we could have tried out more players.”

He further substantiated his explanation stating, “For example, I wanted a sixth bowling option and Deepak did that very well. If the batters start to chip in with the ball then we will have options to surprise the opposition.”

Hardik concluded by talking about the disappointment of the game finishing on a tie, saying, “Would have liked to win the game by playing the full overs, but it is what it is. At some point, I felt attack is the best defence on this wicket.”
